About ZKTeco Card and Biometric Readers

Readers are the part of an access control system people see at the door. Wiegand card readers such as the KR500 and KR600 connect to a controller or terminal, and the FR1200 adds fingerprint at doors controlled by an InBio panel.

For enrolment at a desk, the ZK4500 (500 dpi optical sensor) and SLK20R USB fingerprint scanners connect to a PC, and the UHF reader identifies vehicles from a distance. See access control accessories for cards and enrolment readers.

How to choose the right ZKTeco Card and Biometric Readers

  • Match the reader output (Wiegand or RS485) to your controller.
  • Match the card technology (125 kHz EM or 13.56 MHz Mifare) to the cards you use.
  • Use a USB fingerprint scanner to enrol users at reception rather than at the door.
  • For outdoor doors, choose a reader rated for outdoor use and shade it from direct sun.

ZKTeco Card and Biometric Readers: frequently asked questions

What is a Wiegand reader?

A reader that sends the card number to a controller over the common Wiegand interface, so it works with most access control panels and terminals.

What are USB fingerprint scanners used for?

Enrolling fingerprints at a PC, for example at reception, so they can be sent to all the devices in the system.

Can I add a second reader for the exit side?

Yes. Most panels and many terminals accept a second reader to record exits as well as entries.
