About ZKTeco Standalone Access Control

Standalone access control secures a single door without a panel or PC: users are enrolled on the device itself, which releases the lock directly. The ZKTeco X6 is a compact fingerprint reader for this use, ideal for offices, stores and server rooms.

Typical uses include office doors, stock rooms, server and electrical rooms, and staff-only areas in shops and clinics, wherever a small group of people needs keyless entry and a key or code is no longer secure enough.

For more doors, attendance reports or central management, see access control terminals and access control panels.

How to choose the right ZKTeco Standalone Access Control

  • Use standalone devices for one or two doors with a small number of users.
  • Plan the lock, exit button and power supply with battery backup.
  • If you need reports or remote management later, choose a networked terminal instead.
  • Choose fingerprint, card or PIN, or a combination, depending on who uses the door.
  • Keep the administrator PIN or master card stored safely in case the administrator leaves.

ZKTeco Standalone Access Control: frequently asked questions

Do I need software for a standalone reader?

No. Users are enrolled and managed on the device itself, which suits small sites.

When should I choose a networked terminal instead?

When you have several doors, need attendance reports, or want to manage users remotely.

Can a standalone reader show who entered?

Some standalone devices keep a log of events that can be checked on the device. If you need regular access or attendance reports, a networked terminal with software is the better choice.
