How to choose
- Throughput
- Flap barriers and speed gates are the fastest. Full-height turnstiles are slower but give stronger control.
- Security level
- Waist-high barriers deter casual entry. Full-height turnstiles stop people climbing over.
- Indoor or outdoor
- Outdoor installations need weather protection or a model built for it.
- Readers
- Choose card, fingerprint or face readers, and decide whether the turnstile also records attendance.
- Emergency exit
- Gates must release on a fire alarm or power failure. Confirm this with your fire consultant.

What is the difference between a flap barrier and a turnstile?
A flap barrier uses retracting panels and passes people quickly. A full-height turnstile has a rotating or swinging body that blocks the whole opening and gives stronger control.
Can turnstiles record attendance?
Yes. When the turnstile is linked to the access software, each pass is logged and can feed attendance reports.
Do they work during a power cut?
Turnstiles can be set to release or lock on power loss. Confirm which behaviour you need, and add backup power if required.
